My sightseeing tour was great, but the REAL reason I want to Sedona, of course, was not to play tourist but to record all my new music at Piano Haven Studios. In addition to being a gifted composer and pianist himself, Joe Bongiorno is one of the best recording engineers in the business! From the website: “This is not your traditional recording studio. It’s a specialty studio focusing on PIANO & emphasizing a peaceful, relaxed, productive environment.” And I can honestly attest that this is one place that truly lives up to the hype!
Even the view from the piano bench is inspiring!
This was my third visit to Piano Haven Studios. In 2017, I recorded my first album, Seashells in My Pocket. Last year, I recorded TWO albums – the holiday album Thankful Heart, Joyful Mind and my latest release, The Presence of Wonder, along with three singles (two still unreleased). This year, I really had my work cut out for me, with 35 pieces to record in the SAME amount of studio time. But I also had the benefit of experience! In the first hour and a half, we managed to lay down the tracks for an entire album. By the end of that first day, we were nearly finished with the second. On Day 2, we completed the second and third albums as well as two stand-alone singles. The final day was devoted to re-recording a handful of pieces and making edits.
Long story short: WE DID IT!
Of course, there is still a lot of work to be done before any of this music goes out into the world. As I mentioned in a previous post (click HERE), I have found that composing and recording the music is the EASY part! But you can expect to see the first album – a collection of lullabies for all ages, a combination of arrangements and original pieces – sometime this fall.
In the meantime, I have a few surprises up my sleeve. The first will happen on my birthday – that’s next Thursday, August 15th – when I will release a very special single I recorded at Piano Haven Studios LAST summer. After all, a person turns 60 only once in a lifetime!
Save the date: Thursday, August 15th!
